Call for Expression of Interest: Indicator Workshop

A technical expert workshop was held in Cambridge, United Kingdom, from 3 to 5 September 2019, hosted by the United Kingdom. The purpose of the workshop is to inform and contribute to the intersessional process considering the Strategic Approach and the sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020. Interested stakeholders are invited to submit an expression of interest to participate in the workshop.

At the third Open-ended Working Group held in Montevideo, Uruguay, April 2019, the Government of the United Kingdom generously offered to host a technical expert workshop on indicators to inform and contribute to the intersessional process.

The technical expert workshop is scheduled to be held from 3 to 5 September 2019 in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The workshop will be run by the UN Environment World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

The workshop highly technical in nature was limited to a small group of 40 experts to enable effective, in depth discussion. The overall objective of the workshop is for participating experts to:

  • Identify and review existing and potential new indicators and indicator criteria to enable assessment of global progress towards the proposed strategic objectives for chemicals and waste; and
  • Provide information to assist in further elaborating the targets to ensure they are Specific, Measurable, Ambitious, Realistic and Time-bound (SMART).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Availability to travel to Cambridge, United Kingdom, and participate in the entire duration of the workshop from 3 to 5 September 2019;
  • Suitable technical background and/or expertise in a relevant field as outlined in the application form;
  • Knowledge of, and previous experience in, using or developing indicators is an advantage; and,
  • A good understanding of the future Beyond 2020 Strategic Approach being developed for Chemicals and Waste.
